  • Direct 3d - crash ?

    Hello friends !

I've got a scene file, and I can't open this scene file if I use Direct 3D and Vray. It crashes all the time.

If I switch to Open GL, it works - but it's really hard to handle.
Is this a vray issue or more a common problem with 3dsmax ?

    thx for every little help,
    bernhard

This may happen if you have the "Display maps in viewport" option checked for V-Ray materials. This is already corrected for newer builds.

Yep, we'll be there; not sure what is the booth number though, I'll have to check.

[EDIT] Booth number is #221 (Chaos Group)

                        Hi guys,

I'm sorry to bring this topic back. I don't have any problems when the 'show map in viewport' is checked inside the bitmap parameters, but when I drag a empty slot on top of this bitmap, the max crashes. The same thing occurs when I choose the Color Correct plugin, and I check to keep the old material as submaterial if the 'show map in viewport' is checked.

HAWF I almost get the same as you. Not when I drag an empty slot over the bitmap, but when I drag another bitmap over it. I mean when I try and replace the bitmap in diffuse or wherever by just dragging another over it. About 80% of the time this crashes MAX. (Although I havent had this problem for about a month now) can't remember if I'm using a newer build now or the same one...
However I still prefer OpenGL over DirectX. Even with 1.5 SP1 OpenGL gives me less MAX problems than Direct3D
                          Kind Regards,
                          Morne

How about a built-in non script option: Views > Deactivate All Maps
