  • Scene turns dark

I have a large scene, many objects, when i put a vray light in the entire scene turns black, when i add more lights, it still stays black, i cant see a thing in smooth mode (3ds max)

any ideas how to get this scene to brighten up the normal viewport

i just remodeled almost the entire scene and it is still dark, diffuse color is 240, almost white on the material which i assigned to everything

    lights are on

im stumped, anywhere i can post this file for someone to take a look at, im desperate right now, pls

I guess I haven't got what you meant, I guessed you were talking about max's viewports.
so it's not a viewport problem, but an actual rendering one?

            no

it is maxs viewport, black as night, not the whole viewport, the perspective view when in smooth mode shows all the geometry shaded as black, except for the rpc people, which are grey, strange

and hitting ctrl+L doesn't make any difference (perspective must be the active viewport btw)? weird, have you tried raising the global lighting multiplier in the environment rollout?

                global multiplier

I changed the color from black to white and raised it to 10 and it is still barely visible, albeit a bit lighter in the viewport, will this affect the rendering? never changed these settings, never had too...

I had a similar problem the other day. Just turn on default lighting in the max options.

nope, it won't. anyway, it's odd that ctrl+l doesn't work, it should switch the viewport back to default lighting. it's not a vray thing, but a max one.

are you using phys cam? maybe the problem lies there. my 2 cents

also make sure lights is 'checked' in the vray globals rollout?

I have had the black viewport thing often enought its a max bug AFAIK.

Just switch back to the 4 viewlayout.. choose a viewport thats not affected and then switch to the view you want and maximize again.

                            black viewport

yes i thiink i was a max bug, somehow it is working again, but heres the thing now which is really weird, im using irr map and light cache

I have all my settings turned up super high, including light subdivisions and im still getting really blocthy results

this image is turning into the neverending image from hell!

well i guess if its not one thing its another right

post up an image of the problems and we will sort it out. And any errors in the vray log?
