  • DR slave not using full processor

We've just gotten some new machines here and I'm trying to use them for a few Distributed Renders and I'm running into a few oddities.

    the setup:

    Windows XP workstation, Max9 32bit, Vray 1.5 RC3
    Xp64 slave machine, Max9 32bit, Vray 1.5 RC3

the slave machine uses ~ 15-18% cpu on the DR render

    Windows XP workstation, Max9 32bit, Vray 1.5 RC3
    Xp64 slave machine, Max9 64bit, Vray 1.5 RC3

the scene crashed on trying to render > unsurprisingly, but hey, worth a try.

Are there any settings I can adjust to make them usable for DR?

    hi dave

if you render with dynamic, screw at the dynamic value or change to static geometry

    ...mostly it´s a memory issue...

    hope this helps

i ran into the very same problem.

      got 2 machines:

      render client: XP64, Vray 1.5 RC3, AMD XP4400+
      render server: XP64, Vray 1.5 RC3, Intel Core2Duo QX6700

i'm only seeing one bucket form the render server. it should show 4 instead.
      what's the problem here?

      thanks
      ale

This is because for some reason, 3ds Max tells V-Ray that the multithreading option is off in DR mode.

We have worked around this in the final 1.5 version by ignoring this option in DR mode.

To works around it with RC3, before submitting the scene for DR, open the MaxScript listener (F11) and type

        Code:
        renderers.current.system_numThreads=4
        and press Enter.

        Best regards,
        Vlado

If your rendering on all dual cores you should change the 4 to a 2
