  • Image noise level

    Hello guys,

i cant get rid of the noise in my scene, especially on the glossy objects and am starting to get furious as have no other option that i know i could change to get rid of it...

ive got all the material refl/refra subds on 30 samples
using rQMC image sampler at 1/6
first bounce IRRAD 50/30 DE on
    second bounce LC 1500/0.02
rQMC sampler at 0.001 noise tres, subd 30, else default
scene lit by sun at 8 subd

have tried to use fixed image sampler at 4 subd.....still makes the noise...this is all weird as it has not happened to me in a long time the noisiness

    here is an example

i normally in my workflow set all the mats on 24 subds straight away but this time ive set them to 8 first and then used vray automator to set them to 24 all at once...could that be the problem?

COS I REALLY DONT KNOW WHATS THE PROBLEM...ive got the settings pretty hight already!!!

    can anyone please help?

    thank you very much

try adaptive sub div image sampler instead of QMC

otherwise you can also use the image quality multiplier to the right of noise threshold - which will kill render times but probably fix it.

maybe more LC samples for the second bounce?

one thing is strange though...the darker object (by material) the more noise it produces......look at the sinks....they r perfect when we consider noise....and then look at the floor ....

I doubt changing LC will make any difference. Does look like that sort of problem to me.

Does seem really weird. So the only light is the vraysun... try upping that to 20 as well. Doubt that will help as it doesnt seems like it will but cant hurt.

nope.....neither helps.....(((( any idea what can it be? could it be the vray automator?

                Maybe. Would suprise me tho.
You can always switch back to scanline then back to vray to reset all the settings.
I think its just so dark that the sampler is having a hard time.

Put a basic grey vray mat on everything and see if the noise still exists.

Failing that try putting a big low MP vray light in behind the camera and see if that helps lower the noise... im curious.

yeah thats what i could cause the problem...the lack of light in the scene...as there r probably not enough samples to go through....will try what u said....thanks

a friend of mine said it might be caused by LWF, lack of lighting in combination with glossy reflections....he suggested AA at 6/15, but than it would not be animatable....

Just looking at your scene now.

Its kinda odd.. from the camera view it uses up say 500mb ram and 800mb VM if i go to top view and zoom out it goes up to over 2GB and starts paging to disk as I only have 2GB ram.

I think its to do with alot of unnecessarilly large textures or poorly compressed ones at that.
But im sure thats not causing the noise. Looking in that now... might just eat dinner first

(note to self, dont go to top view and zoom out... eeek.. my ram!!!)
