  • Opacity Problem

    Vray Version: RC3

I am having a problem with opacity.

Here is a render of the problem

Clearly there is a strange halo around the plane that should be transparent
The object is a plane with a opacity map on it (it's pure white, and pure black, I promise)

    VrayPhyscam/VraySky used with LWF.

Shadows are turned off on the plane, I have tried with and without Receive and Generate GI. The lights hitting is is

    1: VRAYSUN
2: Max Spot - shadows: VRayShadow
3: Max Spot - shadows: ShadowMap

I have tried different combinations of VRayShadows/ShadowMaps and neither work. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Have you tried turning Transparent Shadows off/on in your lights and GI settings?
When you say Shadows are off on the object, which is off, receive or cast? Even though it may have shadow cast off on the objects, it's obviously casting some kind of shadow.

Also, shadow maps don't take into account opacity. Only ray traced shadows do. So that may be an issue to. Not sure since I can't look into the scene and troubleshoot.

    Hope that helps.

No I hadn't tried the transparent shadows, I am turning them off now to see if that helps.

Both are off in the Object Properties of the plane

      Thanks Chip,

Is your opacity map set at the correct gamma?

Turned transparent shadows off, and all the lights hitting it have their shadows set to VrayShadow, still same problem

Is your opacity map set at the correct gamma?
Adjusting via Output Level: .255 doesn't fix it

What is another way to set the gamma of the opac map? besides using the colorcorrect plugin?

must figure this darn thing out in 20minutes to give this scene enough render time!

adjusting the gamma/exposure shouldn't affect the blacks or the whites.

Do you have "Visible to GI" unchecked?

                            Render, Render, Render!

*grin* It would probably help if I knew what I was talking about half of the time.
