I'm getting this strange artifact now while using render to texture, it seems to be fairly random in terms that its not happening on all of my models, but it is consistant across renders (re-rendering model will return same problem no matter what my settings are it seems)

yes to automatic, though i have it happening also on an object that i manually unwrapped.
the scene is fairly simple, just a skylight, an HDR for reflection, and 95% of the materials are a highly glossy stainless
I'm using max9 32, with the 1.5 final
will try and isolate it down some more into a mesh that i could send.Dave Buchhofer. // Vsaiwrk

you cant have two of the uv shells overlaying eather. So even though the uvs are properly unwrapped you must have all of the in their own space.
P.S. setting ray bias to 0.01 may also helpDmitry Vinnik

Sorry to drop off on this one, the artifact issue hasn't re-appeared since I switched to using brute force for my GI methods.
possibly also because I switched from rendering at 2048 for the above images, to rendering at 256Dave Buchhofer. // Vsaiwrk
