bad faces

What in the world would cause this? lines in MAX extruded with a depth of 0.

coincident faces ie the faces have not been extruded.

BAD FACES

That makes sense. My edit mesh is broken so I extruded with no depth. When I add an editable mesh nothing happens in shaded mode. The edited mesh's render fine, but shaded mode looks like wire frame on the edited mesh. I guess time to reinstall max.
