  • zonealarm vray slowdown etc...

Im going to contact Vlado about this later today, but I was wondering if anyone might have anythoughts about other software on my pc that might be causing me problems...theres no point contacting support if there somthing obvious iv missed

My current workflow with vray goes somthing like this...

    Open max,
set up DR - Hit render.
render done, goto mat edditor to adjust mats...."cannot find license "
Wait a few mins for the computer to find license before I can do anything...max locked up while it cannot find a license .
adjust mats, do test render..."license not found"...wait....hit render..."license not found"....etc..
a few moments later it all kicks in again and im able to render...
    render done.....

goto step one and the cycle starts again..

what would normaly take me 30 secs is taking 5 mins..

sooo....Iv gone over all 3 of my computers...they are all connected by a netgear router and all run zonealarm free/avast antivirus. Is there anything with these that can be causing me problems , is there a setting in Zonealarm that I should turn off or somthing?

zonealarm will be blocking the request to obtain a license so you will have to add an exception in your firewall/virus protection to allow the request

thats kinda what I thought, but wouldnt zonealairm block it all the time....not just some of the time?. In the "program control" of zonealairm iv allowed access to all 3dsmax/vray apps (or the ones Im aware of anyway)...is there somthing else Iv missed?

I used zonealarm for a few years, before it became bloated.
It had a tendency to mess up the app/rules list with time.
If nothing seems to work, wipe those clean and start afresh.

well, turning off zonealairm made no difference anyway...Just restarted max, started a render...which rendered fine, once it was finished I opened the material edditor....and as I write this its currently loading in every preview very slowly, and all previews are black...so again it cannot find the lic

its got the be a problem with my PCs...I dont think anyone else is having similar problems.

*update*...it took about 5 mins to not load in any of the mats....then my pc was frozen for another few mins. When it eventualy started working again I made the mistake of hitting the material edditor again...its now frozen again loading in black materials.

I wonder if my dongles faulty?

I use the simpler netlimiter 2.
Not as stealthy as zonealarm or the stunning syagte personal firewall, but it works with no fuss under XP64 bit.

Mat, I sent you an email the day before yesterday about this issue; did you receive it? I do not have a reply from you yet.

                      Best regards,
