  • 1.5 displacement problems

I haven't had this problem in the past, seems like older versions of Vray had a 'Keep continuity' option for 2d displacement. I am wrong about that? The 2d displacement is nice and smooth, but you have the gaps...the 3d displacement closes the gaps with the keep continuity, but it looks like crap otherwise.

The 2d displacement has never had a "Keep continuity" option.

The way to solve this is to chamfer the edge between the two sides so that the displacement curves smoothly.

another way to deal with the issue is to adjust the shift so that the face of the brick stays where the original face is and the grout lines are negatively displaced.

        Looks promising...

That's why it is called 2d displ, because it displaces the faces by their normals. Having 2 perpendicular faces with normals between 90 degrees, will always react the same way. The inverse decision is what comes in help.

that works generally, but if you get odd discoloration when using a vraymaterial, then you can get around it by using a standard material with Faceted checked. sometimes when doing the above vray trys to smooth around 90degree corners
