  • VRAY rendering all black

Hi Can anyone shed some light on this?.

I am rendering a scene with vray and it keeps rendering everything black.

My vray license is running and all ok. Somtime if I shut max down and start again the problem goes.

    Any ideas???

Do you get any error messages or warnings in the V-Ray log file? Does it attempt to render at all, but all buckets are black, or it does not start rendering at all?

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Try deleting you 3dsmax.ini file. This happened on a couple stations here and that is what fixed it. I could not duplicate the problem but it hasn't happened with 1.5 final.

            BLACK VFB

I have had a simila experience, although it was an issue with the V-Ray's frame buffer. If I zoomed in/out it would go black until I waited a tad and zoomed in/out again. It was a temporary thing for me.

3dsmax.ini has moved to the easy to find location of

              c:\Documents and Settings\<Your user name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\3dsmax\9-64bit\enu\

              Wasn't that easy :P

Make sure you have your folder options set to view invisble folders and files.

Don't want to sound stupid but I had similar experience and fought for hours...

Check your camera and whether it hasn't fall into some mesh.
Often while adjusting the viewport, the camera gets into some wall or something.

BTW, is the render-time quick or slow ?

Ok, we just had this happen on a project. We hid everything, and started unhiding objects 1 at a time until it rendered black again. Turns out we had made a copy of a proxy instead of an instance and it blew up to the size of our scene so everything was inside of it.

Exactly, the camera fell into mesh geometry.

experienced this once after turning on volume light for a random spot light...
turned it off and it was fine.

I can also confirm at times adding volume light will do this. Turning it off for me, also didn't fix the problem. Removing the volume light and then shutting down and restarting max fixed it though.

That sounds interesting, I did add a volume light. Ill remove it and see what happens.

                            Thanks everyone.
