  • generating a bent perforated metal sheet!

    Hi all,

Im experimenting with opacity mapping and displacement to render a 90 degree bent sheet of metal with around 100 holes running all through.

Im not looking to model this, as that would be easy! but Im not having any luck with Displacement. Has anyone got any bright ideas?

    Thanks

    What's the problem exactly?

apply the desired uvw map a box and then use the bend modifier?
or collapse the uvw map and the re-model ur box into the desired shape...i guess

I think the problem has gone away! using water level ive managed to make something that's near enough, not exactly what I wanted, but I think a combination of displacement and opacity would do it.

I did a 2d displace of -2.5 on a 5 thick box, with a water level of -2.4999, then used a slightly smaller copy of the displace map to use a an opacity map to knock out the middles of the holes! Maybe not the correct way but does work.

u can use water level to cut the holes
