  • Backburner 2007.0, 2007.1 and V-Ray 1.5

I think I might have tracked down a BB issue with V-Ray 1.5. Or render node will error out on any job if BB 2007.1 is installed. I just finished some testing with 3ds max 2008 which ships with BB 2007.1 and after some further testing I found V-Ray 1.5 will only work with the previous version, 2007.0.

So, if you have 1.5 RC5 with BB 2007.0 or 2007.1 running 3ds max 9 ro 2008, the render nodes will work. If you upgrade V-Ray to 1.5 final, 3ds max 9 and 2008 will work fine if you use BB 2007.0. If you upgrade to BB 2007.1, 3ds max 9 will error, but 2008 will work fine.

This seems ultimately to be an issue with 1.5 final and 2007.1 only on 3ds max 9. I'll roll back to 2007.0 for now.

I'd be interested to see if anyone experiences the same issue.

We are having the same problem here with the new backburner. It doesn't render any vray job (2008 included). For now we are using BB 2007.0 until there is a fix.

        Best regards,

I swear autodesk does this sort of thing on purpose, if someone could prove it...

What kind of error do you get back from backburner? In the quick test that we did here, for some reason it tried to launch 3ds Max 8, rather than 2008!?

Sorry to say this guys...but I have BB running better than ever since I installed the version that comes with max 2008 (2007.1.1.235). I did a test last night with my 65 PC farm and I didn't get a single error . I was quite pleased with that. It was a huge scene with 30 different buildings and probably 3000 proxied trees. I was running it as a max 8 job though.

I will agree that BB 2007.1 seems to have a bit more pep, especially with start and stop. Otherwise, we will just stay at 2007.0 until this can be resolved on our side. The error message we get is "Unknown error loading application". This happens almost immediately after the job is sent. I also tried to load the erroring job into a standard 3ds max session and render, but it works fine. Again, if I run a job on a machine with 2007.1, I get the error. If I uninstall 2007.1 and install 2007.0, it works fine.

When you send a netrender job to multiple machines do you select the "Use all servers" option in the Network Job Assignment window? I recently stopped using that and just select them all manually and I've been have great results. It might just be a coincidence on my side, but it's worth a try.

This would be crushing for us. We just upgraded to 2007sp2 to help with the problem of idle servers. Anyone get headway on this one? No upgrade for us until this one is sorted out. Max9 BB2007sp2
