  • Weird light occurence

I can't make out the rule when this occurs, but it's been bugging me since i opened this file.

This is the image that I expect to get.

But this is the kind of image (lighting) that i keep getting for some reason.

It's pretty random. The first image was rendered from the viewport, the second one from the vray cam, but it doesn't really matter. If i were to switch from a vray cam after getting weird results, and orbit a bit in the perspective mode, this could go away. Then if i go back to the original position and render from the perspective it could give me the correct results but again, it's random.

I tried turning the vray lights that i have behind the camera on and off, once it responded to them being turned off, and gave the correct results, but again its random, after switching them on and off for a couple of times it wouldnt make a difference anymore, it would be flat and ugly no matter what.

Please help ASAP, it's frustrating and i need to finish some tests.

make sure you have default lights unchecked in the global rollout. other then that, can you share the file. I haven't seen this personally.

      I can't share the file

Unchecking default lights doesn't make a difference.

Can you reproduce the problem in a different scene? if you make one from scratch with the same basic features and settings? Can you share the settings you used?

you should also make it a habit to give all relevant details when posting in problems. ie max version, vray version.

Let me try to recreate the same scene using simple geometry rather than the model that i'm working on.

              Different thing now:

I removed everything from the scene and made a simple box, while keeping the same cameras and the lights i want to use.

              http://rapidshare.com/files/65836617...oblem.max.html

              It's a max9 file (x64) with the appropriate vray 1.5.

              *edit*

There it goes again, the same problem in the same file.

              Give it a shot...

It seems that i left the regular sun from the sunlight system on, and with raytraced shadows. It may be the culprit but i do not understand why it would come and go?

Why do you have both a VRay sun and a direct light on at the same time? Also, Ray Traced shadows no workie. Use VRay Shadows.

lol just beat me to it. I don't know why it would come and go though the Ray Traced Shadows are probably the cause. Try fixing it in the original and see if it works now

It was a mistake, but still i was confused by the coming and going thing. It seems to be working now.

Raytraced shadows will render rather unpredictably with V-Ray - sometimes they will show, othertimes they will not... it is not consistent and we have been unable to correct it. For this reason, avoid using Raytraced shadows. Other shadow types seem fine though (e.g. Advanced raytraced, shadow maps etc).

                        Best regards,

Thanks, i don't usually have a habit of leaving raytraced shadows on, or for that matter, to use two suns at the same time but i didn't realize that i had it on.

No more raytraced shadows for me, and i'm going to double check the sun when i link vray sun to it.

Might add a daylight system for the vray sun to the wishlist

i thought you could choose a vray sun in the daylight system?

Yep, you can choose the VRaySun as a sun type for the standard 3ds Max Daylight system.
