  • could not obtain license after install of max2008

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I've previously been running vray1.5 with max9(32bit) on winXP(32bit) using the wibu key for licensing.

Today I installed max2008 on all my machines and now I just get a 'could not obtain a license' message when trying to access vray from max.

This happens when using max9 or max2008.

I've uninstalled max2008 and vray and the wibu drivers, then re-installed vray and the wibu drivers (to get me back to where I was before the max2008 install) and I still get the same message. In fact I've installed/uninstalled many times now...

The wibu monitor shows I have 1 license on the dongle, but doesn't want to access it.

I'm at a complete loss now, other than throwing the computer out the window and then stamping on it, I think I've pretty much run out of options.

Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated!

    Rob.

When you start the V-Ray license server, does it give out any errors? If yes, what are they? If not, open a web-browser and type http://localhost:30304 as the address; what do you get there?

    Best regards,

How fast do the License Server Information update?

I ask since my information does not update properly. I have a server that hosts the vray dongles. Besides the Vray software for Max 9 and 2008. It also runs Max 9 32, 64 and Max 2008 32, 64. It is not used as workstation only renderslave.

I have now installed Max 2008 on my laptop but I can only access Ray from Max R9. The Vray service is running but it does not report any usage when used from Max 9. Still got 2 licenses accessible.

All pc run Win XP pro

        I can't believe I'm this stupid.

If you use V-Ray from the same machine, V-Ray will count it only once - so you can have multiple 3ds Max copies started on the same machine, and they will only take one license.

Ok but why would I be able to obtain a license to Max 9 but not 2008? They share the same settings and the same licese server. I do have free licenses.

Here is a screen showing my issue.

A- Settings for my server when accesed from Max 9
B- Vray dialog from Max 9
              C- Vray License server Information
D- Settings for my server when accesed from Max 2008
E- Vray dialog from Max 2008

I have installed Vray for Max 2008 on both workstation and license server.
Is there anything else I need to update?

(don't feel like much of a hacker right now)

I can't see very well from the thumbnail, are the versions of V-Ray for 3ds Max 9 and 2008 the same (e.g. SP1)? Is the license server also from the SP1 version?

                Best regards,

Sorry I have now upladed the file as a zip. Well in answer to your question. No The Max 9 is 1.5 and the one for 2008 is SP1. I suppose they have to be the same verision. I'll download SP1 for Max 9 when I can. Without my request I got two new passwords two this morning that doesn't work one at 2:19 and one a 4:39.
I have now requested a new one. As soon as I get it I'll download SP1 for Max 9. Then hopefully it will work as expected

If you use the license server from SP1, instead of the original 1.5 version it will be fine - both for the 1.5 version and the SP1.

For the password email, this was not sent by us and we are looking into it.

Same here. Got two password requests this morning (neither do I remember requesting for one). I changed my password after logging in using the second password, it doesn't work now.

I have that problem here. I was running max 9 fine with 1.5.00.
I installed 2008 with 1.5.sp1 and that copy couldn't get a license and the max9 version could without a problem.

I installed sp1 for max 9 now, and after thinking it didn't work then remembering to actually start the vrlservice manually they both work.

So that seems to be it. If you want them both installed, make sure they both have vray 1.5.SP1 installed and you should be running fine.

All sorted out. Thanks for the help. I'm the one with the shortest "administrator straw". In the end there are so many different license solutions that I can't help getting a bit confused. As always you ppl are there to hold my hand. Thanks again. Have a great weekend.
