  • Vray Sky in background in Max 2008

    Hi,

I have a little problem with the Vray sky in the viewport background in max 2008

I Make My Vray sun, display de Vraysky in viewport background, but when I move the sun, the background doesn't change. I have to desactivate it, and re activate to make it working.

Is anyone know how to avoid it?

    Thanks.

You could try to explicitly specify the sun node in the VRaySky texture.

    Best regards,

I've got this in both Max 9 and 2008, have to disable viewport background then re enable to get it to update. Mental Ray Sky in 08 works nicely, realtime updates in viewport.

My script to have realtime vray sky in viewport does work in max 2008 (and max 8 and 9, too).
Check it out (OT section, or just follow the link on my tag).

But I Have some question for you

I Just tried your realtime script.
                It's just great.

But I see that is no need to change intensity of the sun to have it corectly in the viewport and in the render.

It's not My case, maybe I do it wrong, but in my viewport (Physical cam with exposure) the sky is washed out, in the render ok.

So I need to manually change the intensity to .02 to make it correct in the viewport.

I'm on Max 2008 with Vray 1.50 final both in 64 bits.

                Any Idea?

                Thanks.

                Edit:

Ok I'm a fool I have not read the doc correctly, I need to change the value, it's normal.

May the Vray team could make someone similar to your script in future version? With correct exposure when using a physical cam.

                It will be useful.

                Thanks.

The checkbox "make viewport compatible" is there to change the intensity of the sky in the viewports ONLY.
The script will turn the sky back to it's original intensity (1.0, or whatever it was before you turned the realtime functions on) whether you render or close the script dialog (to have it on, minimise the dialog, don't close it).
I found out empirically that 0.02 mult for the sky is close to the default cam exposure, hence why i change it to that value: so to replicate those colours closely.

So no, you don't need to do anything manually. just work as you always did, and the script will (should! report bugs if you gind any!) take care of the rest.

Ok So I think there is a bug on Max 2008 because the make viewport compatible is enabled.

The Sky is On 1 -> Viewport washed out
I Activate realtime Sky nothing change

I tried it on max 2008, and it behaves as expected...
try on a new scene, knowing that while the callback is active (ie. the realtime function is active) it's a bad idea to change the sky intensity by hand )

                        Ok I find the bug

When you check use manual sun node in the vray sky, and select your sun, the script doesn't work anymore.

Don't check it and it works perfectly.

                        I notice something too:

When I activate the script, the intensity in the viewport seem to be good.

I make a render, and after the render the intensity get lower.

After I can make renders, it doesn't change anymore, but the first render get the viewport darker, so the intensity is not good anymore.

The Vray cam exposure settings doesn't seem to have an effect on this.

                        here is a sceenshot: http://www.edge-fr.com/vraysky.jpg

                        Thanks.

Ok, i rewrote the core code for the script to cater for custom suns in the sky map (the previous one was way too simple).

I am not yet sure it works as it should, so i won't update the scriptpack just yet, but if someone wants to give it a test, pm me, and I'll send it over.
