  • Vray Camrea and focus distance shift

Max 9 32bit, Vary 1.5. OS Windows XP SP2,hardware: planty of everything

I'm animating focus distance in order to change DOF. I set up the vray cam to focus on near object (distance 200mm) on frame 1 and 50 frames later I focus on an object which is 2000 mm away. Camera is stationary and focus distance is the only thing animated.

Problem is that it looks as if the FOV is slightly changeing too.

To correct this I tried changing contoler keys to linear, changing controler type to TCB etc which didn't help. Tried to copy keys in the curve editor from 0 to frame 50 but it's still doing it.
Oh, yes. I tried rain-dance but that didn't help either (although everyone in the office loughed!)

Has anyone else had this problem before or is it some sort of weired paralax that I'm unaware of?

that's expected behaviour....Part of the realworld and one of these problems you have to live with when using "physical(enter any cg term here)" :P Shifting Camera Parameters DOES affect focus for some of them in reality. Hence it's pretty hard to match the PhysCam to a Max Standard Cam or a nuke Cam.

You dont only get the realism, but also the problems

If anyone you know has an slr, have a look through the lens and alter the focus manually.

for heavy DOF effects like that its much quicker and easier to do it in post.
