  • BackBurner Strip rendering Vray pass

    Hi,

I have just run a strip render through backburner, works well.

BUT, I have some render elements that dont seem to have worked, all I have is a single strip.

Any ides what is going wrong??

I think this has always been a problem with the strip rendering - it works only on the RGBA channel, but I may be wrong...

    Best regards,

Yes this still is an issue

We more and more need renderpasses, to get final results.

But the renderstripes allways overwrite the last stripe, cause they dont get new names...

      hmm..

is there any way to change this ?

Try using TGA files for the output - I think this actually works when using strips - same with the alpha channel as well, which TIF wont sort out.

Well, the obvious workaround, and all-round faster and better solution is: Use DR via backburner.

                Or use TGA files!

File format is not the issue here. The issue is that render elements do not strip render. However, render elements do work in DR. And as long as you use DR with BB, you can distribute your still render across your render nodes, maintain a queue, and avoid the 40% overlap inherent in strip rendering. Win-win

                    Hi,

Yes, we worked around that by writing our own stripe rendering. We used the "hidden" VRay feature of an animatable renderregion and send the different buckets to BB as an animation of the renderregion.
But this of course is just a hack around the autodesk bug.
                    Best regards,

                    Dieter

Exactly. DR via BB. It has made strip rendering obsolete.

Interesting, care to share the handles?

Anyways is probably enough of an inspiration as it is.

Do you have a method of merging or is it done by hand?

I do agree, but some people do still like to render strips. I just wanted to make sure its not possible because of Autodesk, not vray.

I use DR on BB fine. But Id be very interested to know the workaround Dieter has found. Could this be built in to vray in future?

It is merged by a small exe programm that I wrote.
We could do that with DR as well but it is hard to get the renderfarm organized for a lot of artists if you have to switch between VRayspawner and Backburner Server all the time. That's why we prefer the BB Server only method.

                            Best regards,
