    Why can't a render-to-texture file automatically save correctly? I always have to make sure I save the image in the frame buffer because the file that gets saved is just a black file that's much smaller than what I set the render to texture dialogue to create.

    I don't have any clue as the saving is done by 3ds Max, not by V-Ray; but I know that this issue seems to be with some file formats only, but not with others - so you can try saving to e.g. PNG and see if it works.
