    http://chaosgroup.com/forums/vbullet...light=coverage

i wanted to post this link first as I have read through many of the threads relating to the "coverage" problem.

I understand that compositors like Fusion can use coverage to help smooth the points between different render IDs. RPFs for example can hold coverage as part of its Gbuffer

OpenEXR will actually hold coverage data. if you open the save extra channels directly inside of the OPenEXR options when saving an image you can choose coverage. (you dont get access to the options when you go through the Vray frame buffer save file though!)

I know that Vray cant seperate coverage into a seperate pass as it is actually part of the Gbuffer. but surely Vray should be able to write coverage data properly and embed that in the EXR?

Fusion will also read coverage from the EXR and attempt to fix edges using coverage

If this worked properly it would OWN beyond belief....

This already works fine if you specify an EXR file as the output file in the Common tab of the Render Scene dialog, so I'm not sure where is the problem?

If I specify the Coverage channel in the OpenEXR options, I do get an extra channel in the resulting file and it contains the proper coverage too.

    Best regards,

the problem arrises when you want the rest of the channels like velocity , GI etc to be embedded from the render elements. so the exr contains everything you need for compositing.

I will have a quick play around now though to see if I have got the wrong end of the stick

thanks Vlado fot the quick reply.

Ah, I see, right. There is no way to get this into the same file as the rest of the render elements - one will need a coverage render element specifically.

Would it be a problem to get a coverage render-element ? If i am not mistaken there already used to be one tho it wasnt called coverage, wasnt there ? What would be even nicer would be a coverage channel per element in the alpha of the corresponding exr-layer. As that would help a lot to get rid of premult/unpremult problems with esp VRayMtlSelect.

          Kind Regards,
          Thorsten
