  • Problem material causes windows to stutter

This is a bit of weird problem, and I suspect, not actually a vray specific problem.

The material attached causes windows to intermittantly hang when rendering, even though vray has use low thread priority ticked, and 3ds max has low priority.

Can anyone replicate the problem with the material?

aha... I think I've worked out the problem. I had the map filtering set to summed area. Puting it back to pyramidal solves the problem.

Bizarre... any reason why summed area would cause my radio stream to start cutting out, and the windows UI to start stuttering ?

I wasn't even using more memory than I have installed...

There is a bug in 3ds Max 9/2008 that would cause summed area filtering to be extremely slow. This is not only V-Ray related, it happens with the scanline renderer as well.
