  • Undersampling on matte shadows with ADMC

    Maybe not a bug, just me . . . Using latest sp1 + max9 x64.
Adaptive dmc 1/4 and everything else is default, except rised subdivs - 22.
The problem is - when I check matte and shadows on vrayplane it start to look like second pic. No gi, just dome light + direct with area shadows and vraylight (sphere).

    Any ideas ?
P.S. When I set adaptive dmc to 2/4 or higher - noise starts to wanish. And when I turn any other AA engine - everything is good.

So what chance does that leave, for anyone else?

Do you have the "Affect alpha" option turned on for your matte object? If not, try turning it on and see what happens.

There is a bug, which is fixed already, but it basically causes the image sampler to not see the background through the matte object, so to the image sampler, the background looks perfectly black and it does not see a reason to do any super-sampling. When you check the "Affect alpha" option, the alpha is seen by the image sampler and it can handle this properly.

        Best regards,

Oh. Yes. I've read already about this. Thought it won't bother me

Vlado - got another issue with another scene:
I draw a rectangle around place I want vray to render, but instead of rendering this rectangle, it renders some another at any part of the screen!

Maybe this is a memory related stuff, as I home I'm still 2gb limited and my scene eats slightly above 2gb. And this happens only in max vfb, as vray vfb just doesn't change at all. It stays blank...
Maybe it's not vray related, but I see this for the first time. RCx was free of it.
I just can't seem to trust myself

What kind of rendering are you doing (region/crop/blowup)? Do you have the V-Ray VFB to take the resoluton from 3ds Max or you have overridden it?

            Best regards,
            Vlado

I even restarted max and still - max vfb and vray vfb doesn't render that region.
At vray vfb I set resolution manually. I'm doing region render. Mouse tracking works fine... But that's not what I want.

Not sure what might be causing it then, without the scene.

One thing you can try is to set the 3ds Max resolution to be the same as the VFB one.

The other thing is to directly specify the rendering region from MaxScript as described here: http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/150S...ex.html#hidden

                Best regards,
                Vlado

Do you know your camera was locked in the render scene dialog box? Unchecking this makes ever region render work as expected.
                        www.dpict3d.com - "That's a very nice rendering, Dave. I think you've improved a great deal." - HAL9000... At least I have one fan.
