  • URGENT! Can't render Pflow particles

I just can't render those particles in any way with vray. Scanline works perfect! Vray just crashes. Attached scene is a particles only scene, without geometry.

    I need to render it!!!!!

    3dsmax9 x64 productivity booster rev.3
    Vray sp1 x64
    Win x64

    Vraylog included.

    Rename zip to rar.

    Hello Paul,

I will look at this as soon as I can.

    Best regards,

      Thx a bunch.
BTW - the main error frame for Vray is frame 11 and above. If the particle system doesn't show up (dunno why ) go to pflow graph and turn off rendering, then turn it on again (damn 3dsmax). Then it will show up in viewport. BUT scanline and even cebas fr works. Vray will hang and crash max, if there's no particles in viewport. It will tell this ->

      Code:
      [2008/Jan/13|17:33:46] Setting up 4 thread(s)
[2008/Jan/13|17:33:46] error: UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: Rendering region (110,66)-(132,88)
Last marker is at .\src\donecb.cpp, line 348: DoneCb::regionDone(), finished copying region
I just can't seem to trust myself
So what chance does that leave, for anyone else?

So this seems to be because of the velocity render element; if you disable that, all is fine. I will correct this, but for the time being, as a quick work-around you can render that element with the scanline renderer.

Hm. Strange - it can't cancel rendering properly. 3dsmax takes 25% of cpu and hangs...
BTW - rendering with DR hangs spawner too.

Yep, I don't think rendering with DR would make any difference. For the hanging I am not sure what may be the issue; there seems to be something odd about this particular particle setup, but I have to look at it more carefully.

Well, maybe the odd part is that these particles were merged into another scene. They didn't show up in pflow editor, until I created new pflow emmiter and then deleted ths new one.
              I hate pflow and 3dsmax!!!!!!

merging particles is generally a pretty bad idea.

It breaks the cache and all sorts of other things.

Here is a hint: if I try to turn off the Force 03 operator in Event 05, I get an immediate crash in 3ds Max - this is even without V-Ray loaded at all. So trying to recreate this operator from scratch now.

                    Best regards,
                    Vlado

So if I disable that mysterious gravity event, all seems to render fine; trying to figure how to make it render with the gravity now...

Hm. I don't have that crash. But yes, max often hangs if I turn on off find target operator or age test.

We discussed this with Oleg over at CGTalk; there seems to be a specific problem where the Particle Flow engine can fall into an infinite cycle, which is what causes the issue. I'm thinking of a way around this now (seeing as how fixing this in Particle Flow quickly is not an option); we'll see what happens.

                          Best regards,
                          Vlado

So this seems to be corrected now; I will send you an updated build, Paul.
