  • Small Problem with Vray and Gradient Ramps

    Hello,

I noticed that Vray doesn´t render Gradient Ramps correctly.
    Not a big problem actually...
    I use 3dsmax 2008/ 1.50 SP 1

Notice the black spots on the white part of the sphere.

Anti aliasing makes it better but they are still there

With displacement applied it is even more noticable (This is how I came across this)

This is the same setup but I used the "Blur Gradient" Plugin

I tried different kind of mappings, without success.
With the scanliner it looks ok.

    cheers,

    sam

What are the settings of the gradient?

The Gradient Setup looks like this.
I tried all different interpolation types.. with the same result.

Here another extreme example with different gradient settings.

      With a hard gradient

      with a softer gradient

and the same with a hard "Blur Gradient"
In this case even the "Blur Gradient" shows the effect, but not that much as the gradient ramp.

      regards,

      sam

did you try to turn down the blur spinner in the ramp ? Gradient Ramp has default to 1.0 by default wich leads to weird artifacts sometimes (as tiling is blurring the end with the beginning sometimes). Works for me

Yep, what happens if you turn down the blurring?

            Thank You very much !!

This seems to solve the problem. At least the effect is reduced to a minimum.

            cheers,

            sam
