    hi

im working on an airplane interior scene, and i have problems with the right light settings!

i set up a vraysun + sky system for the exterior, but because of the small windows and shadings in front of them the interior is not lit up enough. inside there are a lot of indirect light, because of the curved surfaces i worked with vraylight-matirials.to reduce splotches i had to place a lot of skyportals and there are also o lot of spots with ies light! so in my scene there are aprox. 100 light sources.

    my problem:
i can not get fast previews to set the light+cam settings: light calculation is aprox. 1,5h(lc+irmap) i tried reducing the samples and make smaller renderings but i can just reduce the calculation to 1h. but its also not pruductive i can just make up to 6 settings a day to find the right settings and still not found! the scene is nearly ready modeled with a lot of details, reducing the scene to the body without interior is increasing the light calculation. so i dont know what can i do to get faster previews!

    any suggestions?

    (working on :macpro 3.0 dual, 8gb ram+macbookpro 2.4,4gb ram,xp 64+ vista 64)

First if there is almost ni light coming from outside trough the window, I wonder why you bother using vray sun and sky.

For fast preview on 800*600 resolution
    ir map: hsph=35, min/max=-5/-4, clr=1
    LC: subdivs=100
DMC sampler settings: noise treshold=0.5, adaptive amount=1.0, global subdivs=0.3

That should give you very noisy, splotchy previews to check the lighting. You can also simply use LC for first and secondary bounces to preview lighting.

Maybe fake the lighting. Use the vraylightmtl for your curved lights, but don't let them emit/recieve GI. Then use a few big invisible vraylights to light up the whole interior.

thank you flipside for the settings!

i have tried very low settings, may be i didnt tryied this settings in clr, but the increase of the light calculations are just some minutes!

never the less i fugured it out! it seams to be something with the "big size" light portals. i just turned off some of them and i could reduce the light calculation to 1/3 of the time!

i also tryed to put some "big invisble lights", but the lighting results are horrible. if they are one sided you can see highlight margins where the light hits the body. if double-sided is on the color of the materials on the backside of the light change all to grey, strange!?
