  • Vray and maps

    Hi

We have encountered a problem with vray and max, we could launch a render on the BB and vray but only with little maps... When our scene contained big maps (and i'm nice with the "big" > more than 1024 px... ) When we try to render this sort of scene we encountered an unexpected error 3/4 time... we have to resize all the maps to resolve that problems... We haven't found this problem with very little scenes (less than 50 mo) We have seen that we encountered problems systematically with scene over 175 mo... So where can we tweak vray or Max parameters to resolve that ?

Our machines are core 2 quads q6600 with 2 go of ram, and graphics cards are gf 8800 gtx...

Very thanks to help us (we appreciate the check box for the distribute rendering for missing files... it's a really GREAT tool)

    best regards

    Vince

Ideally you should be able to use 3ds Max bitmap pager settings to reduce the memory used for bitmaps.

If you are using 32-bit machines, have you tried enabling the /3GB option for Windows XP?

          Best regards,

Raistlin, this is obviously a simple memory problem, and the solution for this has been discussed here for years. If you searched for memory problems you would find the solutions to all the questions you're asking. Additionally, if you had read the vray help files, these questions are all answered as well: http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/150R...leshooting.htm

Well ! Sorry my answer comes a little bit later... So we have switch to the /3gb for 8 months on 1 machine, and i thought that all our machines have the trick "on" and, vlado, when you say that, i've looking it and realised the problem... We just have finished our test with a scene which crash before the trick... Thanks for you, and sorry for my question about memory, i thought our machines have the trick this is why i answered you here for an another problem... And thanks Clifton for your link and your intervention here, but now you know that i've already read the help files, and run the "search" utility here...

              thanks !

                hi everybody

i m here to tell you all the solution we've found to help us with big textures and big scenes, after asking you for the pager and, here, the /3gb, we have used a NAS server (because we used win xp 32), the /3gb help us a lot and we try the bitmap pager without results, so we used the bitmap proxy for 3dsmax, it is a very usefull tool for people who used very large bitmap (for background for exemple or forground with very high level of details)

So > /3gb + server Nas + bitmap proxys (+ vray proxys also) = no problems anymore

thanks a lot for your help and i swear i can help a little with this

                Best regards
                Vincent
