  • Backburner [V-ray] Could not obtain a licence (4096)

    Hi Guys,

I have vray installed on 2 comps. Also, 3dsmax 2008 and backburner.

I start the manager on my workstation, start the servers on both and start monitor on my workstation.

I have vray licence server running on my workstation and the render node aimed at the workstation for the licence.

I keep getting this error. Im assuming I need to purchase another copy of vray for this to work ?

    Is this correct ?

    Steve

No, you don't need another license; network rendering should work just fine. Are you sure you are using the latest version of the license server?

The licence server for vray ? I have installed vray 1.5 sp1 if thats what you mean..

Is it the wibu-key server you are talking about ? I activated that also but that doesnt seem to do much. Yes...i dont know exactly what im doing, basically because I have never used backburner before.

I have now re-installed the most recent wibu-key drivers and that has done nothing......

I have started the vray floating licence server on the main workstation...thats all I need to do isnt it ?

Anyone got any ideas ? I have also tried disconnecting the render node and just rendering using my workstation through backburner and it still says Could not obtain a licence..

        What is going on ?

Ive checked the server status using this:

http://server:30304/getstatus and it doesnt show any of the render nodes or workstations using a network licence when rendering through BB

And yet, if I dont use BB and just use the workstation it finds the licence and renders fine...!

Ok, there are several things that come to mind:

(*) Are all versions of 3ds Max of the same bit-ness (32- or 64-bit)?
(*) Are you able to render from the command line using the 3dsmaxcmd.exe commnd?
(*) Do you have any firewalls (including Windows firewall) or antivirus programs installed?

          Best regards,
          Vlado

3dsmax versions are all the same.

Windows firewall is inactive on both machines.

I have a firewall for internet connection, but that is connected to a dlink gigabit switch, so that shouldnt affect the comms between the machines.

I do have avast antivirus active on both machines..ill try disabling those, but i dont think that will do much.

Update: Disabling the virus scanner didnt help at all.
            Regards

Ok; what about rendering with 3dsmaxcmd.exe?

              Best regards,

When trying to render using 3dsmaxcmd.exe it still produces the licence error..strange

I had the same, it was the firewall... quite nasty thing!
Anyhow it's new that a render slave has to have access to the license server. Earlier Vray version had not that problem with backburner rendering...

Thanks for helping me out chaosgroup. Im not sure who I spoke to, but just to let everyone know. I had pointed the license to my computer name instead of localhost. Silly me.

                        Now it works a treat.

                        Thanks again
