  • exr and missing alfa

    Is this a vray issue?

Dunno how to explain it better so here's a screengrab from photoshop cs3.

Everytime i import an exr image ( ithink it goes the same for pngs and such) the background/alpha patch is missing.

It's a photoshop issue-nothing to do with vray. I'm not sure but I've heard talk that it's fixed in the latest update but I'm not sure. Easiest fix for me was just replacing the exr importer withe the one from CS2. See here...http://www.chaosgroup.com/forums/vbu...ad.php?t=39586 This'll fix the issues with the exr's but the problem will still remain for png's.

@ dlparisi: Are you using CS3 extended? I replaced the OpenEXR file with the one from CS2, and it did not fix this problem. A bit ironic considering that CS3 extended is designed with more 32-bit functionality such as 32-bit layers and filters.

I wish there were options in the open dialog that allowed one to select how photoshop deals with alpha channels prior to opening an image such as whether the alpha channel is automatically knocked out or not.

Yes, CS3 Extended. I'm pretty sure it was the OpenEXR importer from CS2 but perhaps it was just plain CS. Aldayrn reports using the version from CS2 as well in the linked post so I'm not sure why it doesn't work for you.

Well, it does fix the incorrect alpha that it had before, but then that was fixed in a recent upgrade anyway. Its the knocking out the alpha problem that remains.
