I must admit I feel a wee bit dizzy following all these threads at once, but anyway.. have you changed your materials corresponding IDs to match with the multimatte ones? every mat in max has a default ID of 0 which basically means no ID at all.

        Sorry,

        I've got one cube with ID 1 - 2 -3 for exemple, a multisub mat on it with 1 - 2 - 3 (all VrayMtl)
        In Multimatte :

        ID1 : R
        ID2 : V
        ID3 : B

        At render multimatte is black...
        Why?

        Best regards...

those are not the IDs I mean. you can use the multimatte element either with objects IDs or materials IDs, which are not the ones you set at sub oject level and see as IDs for the various mats in a multi sub/obj material.
you can find the mat ID just next to the show map in viewport toggle, it's a tiny number left to it (default is 0).
if I get what you mean.

no problem. come to think of it, no idea whether it works or not with multi sub/obj mats. I guess I never used it with them.
