thanx alias_marks for you info, it proves I'm not crazy

    to Lele:

my "d3dgfx.drv" seems to be older than yours, it's 9.0.0.36 that make sense according to the different max/viz update scheduling; viz 2008 was released a few months before max 2008.

      Max9 64bit has a different version: 9.5.0.33
Do I smell something fishy there?

Does it do the same with software display?

        nope,
using sw display the vrfb works as expected but I can say that in the beginning I tested max frame buffer with D3D and it works too; so it could be something related with that specific version of d3d driver and vray

          Indeed.
Well, at least we know it does indeed have to do with the d3d display, somehow.

            to Vlado:

are u able to confirm what we found about this issue?
Is it really an obscure alchemy among that Viz 2008 release of D3D driver and VRay SP1? any workaround to suggest? (in addition to roll back to max frame buffer, of course)

I have not been able to reproduce this here, but then again, I usually mostly use OpenGL driver. If it crashes only with DirectX then it is probably a driver problem.

              Best regards,
              Vlado

neither testing on your copy of viz 2008? d3d driver should be the same that mine?
the problem seems to be related with the d3dgfx.drv file that ships with viz having a different release version compared to the max one; it is not related with specific video card driver.
I know about opengl probably working but, you know, current max/viz releases are recommended to run in d3d mode (read it "faster" )

Have you tried it wit the Max vfb too? I remember getting crashes with the max vfb like this way back in Max 4 ish when we started using Quadros.

thanx eric 4 your suggestion but I already tested it and max frame buffer works as expected, also after exagerate stress, still no crash; same behaviour with a wildcat realizm 100

I'm looking 4 other viz2008 user in order to test it beacuse it seems related with a different release between max and viz d3d driver, anyone out there can support my thoughts?

only to bring this post up again,

I still have frequent crashes using VRay frame buffer, now they happen also without dragging its window
the log file reports a memory allocation error
it seems to render fine using Max frame buffer

                        Vlado, any news?
