  • Render host ........ is not responding.

Hi. A strange problem appeared today with distributed rendering.
I have 3 machines with Windows Vista 64 bit. Yesterday I was
able to render all my scenes with DR fine. The only thing I made
was installing Vista SP1 on my 2 hosts by night.
Today I´m not able to render large scenes with both my hosts.
Sometimes one sometimes both are not responding.
It happens during light cache creation. It looks like sdesvb has
    similar problem:

Help me please. I spent all day trying to solve this problem.

Thanks Morbid, reinstalled, restarted, ...same again...
Today both slaves are not responding...
When I want to render again I have to restart them
because they both remain running at 100%...

Majority of DR related problems can be attributed to one of two things:

        1) Network Switch
        2) Pulling large chunks of maps/data from a single server source.

Since you're running only three machines, I would say that your switch is not your problem.

I'd recommend precalcing all your maps (irmap and/or lightcache) and moving all your files to your local machines prior to rendering.

For an animation I was just creating, all my slaves hung. In order to fix this, I made one share on each machine called 'maps.' All the files and textures now point locally to 'c:\maps' (on each machines) and the scene renders fine now.

Thanks jujubee, strange thing is that I can not render scenes
that I was able to render two days ago. The only thing that
is different on my two slaves is Vista SP1.
I tryed to render large scene without textures, only geometry
with vray default material. Same... During light cache computation
          my slaves stop responding...
I´ll try to reinstal Vista on my slaves during the weekend and
will not install SP1 and will see what will happen...

Try my suggestions first and see if that works.

Hi jujubee, I ´ve precalculated irr map and light cache and
moved them to local folders of my slave.
It started to render and for a while buckets of my slave
appeared in frame buffer. Then they disappeared...

I'll try to update my Vista box with sp1 and see if I can reproduce this.

                  Best regards,

So I've updated the Vista box; it seems to run fine but I need to do more heavy tests. How large are your scenes?

                    Best regards,
                    Vlado

I've had this before problem on large scenes (not anymore, not sure what fixed it). At first it was working alright, then the same problem you are having started to occur. Try rendering a simple scene to see if it works. Maybe the slave needs more ram ?

I am running Vista SP1 and DR works alright.

                        2 all :

i havent got vista but maybe it is something with win firewall , i has that problem too, but for all that, i was able to render on slave machine (but on vray message was recorded the same ).

BTW : sometimes , slave buckets comes really lately and dont know why .

Hi Vlado, scene is 35 MB, seats are vray proxy and are about 200 MB.
I can upload it to you with textures.

To Janosik and rmejia: with small scenes there seems to be no problem.
This problem is specific for this scene:

                            http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/738/image3ld2.jpg

                            well... I don´t have a bigger one...
And I must say again, on monday I was able to render it with no problems.
May be something other has changed but I can remember only installing
                            SP1 on my slaves...

Also, if you have a lot of proxies, put them locally as well and test the scene to render.
