  • Render time from Single Frame to Saved Maps.

Just sent my pre calculated irradiance map and light cache to the render farm to start rendering frames, and its taking 30 mins a frame!!!

Where as if i do single frame and dont load any of the saved maps the same frame takes 5 mins to render!!

    Anyone had this ???

Do you have lots of proxies? Other possibility that it's an older map than the current geometry which can lead to very high render times.
    www.dpict3d.com - "That's a very nice rendering, Dave. I think you've improved a great deal." - HAL9000... At least I have one fan.

not many proxys maybe 5 or 6 trees and 1 building, ram usage on rendering is 2.56gb the machine has 8gb so thats not a problem.

is it with all frames or just the first. Usually the first frame takes a lot longer due to loading the scene and all assests. If you got task blocking disabled it will stay that way for every frame.

Are you using animated irradiance maps or just a single fly-through map?

im using the new animation pre pass irradiance map and then blending 3 maps together.

Whats task blocking? where can i find this?

            Thanks

In that case, there are several things to try: one is to reduce the number of interpolated samples for the irradiance map (default is 20, but when using animated irradiance map, this is multiplied by the number of loaded irradiance maps), the other is to try and use the Nearest sample look-up mode. You can also try to set the Interpolation frames to 2 and see if it makes things any better.

ok did that, have it set to nearest, interpolated samples down to 18.

and a frame render now takes 10 mins. where as on single mode it took 8 mins. so i guess thats better!

if i was to go up to overlapping as apposed to nearest is that going to cause the problem again?

The overlapping is likely going to cause problems, yes.

                    thanks.

With those settings with interpolation set at 18, and lookup set to nearest, i tend to get quite a few black splotches in area of low light. with out sending my render time through the roof again. is there any solutions?

                    min rate -3
                    max rate -1

                    hsph sub 70
                    interp 18

                    clr 0.3
                    nrm thresh 0.2
                    dist thresh 0.1

interpolation type = least square fit
                    sample lookup = nearest
calc pass interpoltion samples = 10

                    multipass = on
                    randomize sample = on

                    Thanks

Can you show me that region of the image? You can also try the "Density-based" lookup and see if it fixes it.

when prepassing the irradiance map. does the inter samples have any effect? or is it only when you go back to the animation(render mode)

I've calcualated a map with 25 inter samples and when i go to the render mode i change the sample number, is this ok to do ?
