  • Detail Enhancement splotches/measles?

this is a new problem for me, i get measles when Detail Enhancement is on.

tried the usual suspects: setting global subdivs to 8, high + min -6 / max 0 IR, checking Sub-pixel mapping and Clamp output, Reflective GI caustics. the sun+sky are the only light and the sun is invisible.

it only goes away when i turn Det Enhancement off though, and adjusting the radius or subdivs doesn't make any difference.

anyone have a fix for this? have trawled through the forums.

    cheers
    nik

Are you rendering from a saved GI map? If so this has to be calculated with DE on; you can't just calculate a normal Irradiance map and switch DE on afterwards i don't think.

Other than that (wihtout insulting your inteligence) it's not a co-planar issue is it? check geometry....

no, no saved GI map. and no co-planar issues..........

        I've noticed that, too.
I think it is the radius defined in DE. you see the more details around difficult places in the image (in this case the thin line on the wall). the low IR settings may be smooth and the DE tries to get more details, so there may be results like that.

I think there's no solution to solve it...

        best regards

Well, you can always raise the DE radius, so that it may blend in into the less-detailed areas.
EDIT: Nevermind, didn't notice you tried this already.
Did you try with something huge, like 128 px, as well?

the bigger the radius the less of them, they get spaced further apart, but they're still there.....

i'm sticking with high-anim IR and DE off, does the trick for now.

if it happens with animation and not with stills, you have to use worldunits for the radius, not pixels.
