  • VRayDirt problem ...

    Hi!

Why I can't use VRayDirt in the BUMP channel... I need to use it to generate some curvature at contact point. Some kind of pressure effect over the surface...

When I put VrayDirt in the bump slot, nothing happend... Anyone know a work around to make it works? I don't find any other Dirt (occlusion) map. Quick Dirt didn't existe anymore...

    Thank You!

One way to do it would be to bake the dirt into a bitmap and then use this as bump.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

I can't. The scene is too big and the object move. That the reason why I want to use Occlusion Map... I need small details in a big scene...

Is it a bug? Or I'm the first to need it?

I hope they will allow VRayDirt in the bump channel for the next release...

Just to a pass and render the dirt mat to an element and then use it as a texture, should render pretty quick you don't need lights or gi or anything.

That's not a bug, but a design issue. It neither works with displacement as it would create a bunch of paradoxons. The Dirtmap is dependent on the Displacement/Bump and changes them in the other way round. And Render To Texture should work fine and better then QuickDirt (It stored the Dirtmap as a Vertex Color Channel if i recall right)

                Let me explain...

I need to recreate the water surface tension effect. I mean the little deformation effect in the water arround many moving little objects for a close up. It should be great to have the possibility to create via an dirt map the little bump near the object.

Maybe I can render the sequence in dirt map and after using it in camera projection (ENVIRONEMENT/SCREEN)...

                Anyone have an idea...?

Finally I get an other limitation...

Bump Channel can not use SCREEN projection. Other channels, can but not the BUMP...

VRay Material and 3DSMax matérial can't handle it... I can't re-use my occlusion rendered pass to generate a bump in camera projection...

                  God help me...

Can you not use a camera map modifier instead of screen projection?

                    Best regards,

                      Ok.. It's work Vlado.

few days ago I have try camera projection, but I have get poor result. (bag deformation...)

But I have made my initial test on a simple plane... And it's why I get deformed projection. I just discover than the object need a lot of polygones to have a good projection...

It's should be cool to have something similar to an occlusion pass for the bump... Juste to avoid preprocessing pass... But In 3D nothing is really easy...

                      Sorry for my ignorance...

Thank you Vlado... Thank you all...

Cool, glad you found a way, wouldn't be any fun if it was easy...

You could use a volume select and push modifier to achieve the same thing (Lots of Robots style) but the material you're trying to make is a nice(r) alternative.
                          Many Thanks
