  • VrayMatte gamma correction??!!

Hi! been lurkin round here for a while, this is my first post.

My problem is: I work with LWF gamma 2.2. and all my matte shadows looks washed out. I believe this is because the color swatch (under Matte Properties) for in the VrayMtlWrapper is not gamma corrected.( I use (rgb) 0,0,0 for color. )

Is there a way round this? I've searched the forum and I can't believe this hasn't been discussed..found 100 posts about matte issues but none regarding gamma correcting the shadow color.

    Cheers!

okey, is it really only me that have problems with this..?
    More info: I use max 2009, vray 1.5 sp2, gamma 2.2.

Of course I can go back to gamma 1.8 and render only the shadows but..gotta be a way round this??

Well gamma only affects the mid tones, so a pure black color wouldn't be affected by it anyway. The problem with the shadows looking washed out must be elsewhere. I haven't tested it myself, but it's probably the same as with VRayDirt.
Someone else know more about this?

Wouldn't it be great with a VrayGammaCorrectionMtlWrapper! A material to put on top, that overrides settings in a material! so you just use your regular materials and bitmaps and just add that super VrayGammaCorrectionMtlWrapper on top! that would be sweet...

Shimakaze is right, 0,0,0 is 0,0,0 no matter what gamma you use.

What is likely is that more light is bouncing around and washing out the shadows, you might try lowering or turning off the GI amount in the matte shadow settings.
