  • Vrayproxy 10times slower in max2008-64 Viewport than in max2008-32 on Xp

    hi,
i use Vray SP2 and i have a speed problem in max2008-64 Viewport with Vrayproxys:
Vraymesh proxy are ten times slower (11frms/sec) in my vieport in max2008-64 on Vista64/12GbRam/8x2,67Ghz
In max2008-32 on XP (same PC) it is perfect and fast (107frms/sec)

    any solution?

What about a scene with pure geometry (without proxies)? Does it show similar issues?

        Best regards,
        Vlado

no, it's only the proxies...i tested a big scene of mine, lot of stuff, IES lights, instances, maps, etc.
with proxies in "preview" mode the viewport in 64bit is very slow.
when i hide the proxies the speed is ok (same as 32bit), for the rest of the scene.
switching the proxies to "bounding box" mode also works with no slowdown.

No clue then - I don't have such issues on our Vista machine here although I'll make a test just to make sure. What is your graphics card and drivers?

            Best regards,
            Vlado

              my Grafikcard

it is only the Vray Proxy that slows the viewport.
Normal geometrie & maps have the fast Speed from XP.
I have installed following Grafikcard and Driver:
              GF8800GTS with 175.16_geforce_winvista_64bit_international_whql.e xe
and a second Workstation with GF9600GT with same results:

              Here are my last benchmark:
              PC8-x64 max2008-64 dx9 11Frm/sec,
              PC8-x64 max2008-64 oGL 24Frm/sec,
              PC8-x64 max2008-64 dx10 100Frm/sec,
              PC8-x32 max2008-64 dx9 107Frm/sec,

it seems that directx10 is nearly Ok but no Viewport Shadows and not stable, very buggy and not usable. I must make a decision. i have a big problem if i found no soloution

Hm, that's a weird difference between DirectX 9 and 10. Anyways, I have similar configuration here and I'll check if I can reproduce this; will let you know what happens.

                Best regards,

Is there a solution to this problem, will it be fixed?
I have here architecture projects with a lot of trees/cars/peoples, and viewport feedback sucks.

...forget Warp 9, engine-room please switch to Vray-speed...

I'm doing some comparisons now between 3ds Max 9/2008/2009 32- and 64-bit and Windows XP/Vista.

                    Best regards,

I've tested it with 1000 proxy objects and both the 32- and the 64-bit version had about the same viewport speed, on both Windows XP and Windows Vista. On my Vista box, the graphics card is GeForce 7300, and on the Windows XP - GeForce 8800. So I don't know what may be causing the slowdown in your case. Is this with any scene, or just one particular scene?

                        Best regards,
                        Vlado

just speculating here, but maybe it happens because of old proxies, generated with 1.47, or older?

it not depend from older proxys. i have generate new proxys and the slow viewport will happend on 2 different PCs with GF8800 &GF9600.
I have yesterday installed Mas2009-64. it is the same on Vista64
Vlado, which Nvidia driver and which directX version do you have installed?

Workaround found for Slow VrayProxy in Viewport

                              Hi Vlado
i have found a Workaround for Slow VrayProxy in Viewport:
i add an optimize to the Vraymesh that only work in Vieport and not in render.
No i think i have a regular vertex/Polys that the Grafikkard can handle very fast.
Then Vieport Speed is perfect like normal meshes.
                              Now i can work.
