  • Max Depth is on by default.

    Hey Vlado,

We keep having these scenes where we are using refraction but we always see black where it shouldn't be. I initially thought that if you set the max depth in the material it would get rid of this. However, there is a but where the Max depth in the render panel is overriding the one in the material. To make matters worse, the check box is not on by default so there is no way to know that that is what the issue is. We happened across this on accident.

    Thanks for your time!

Hmm, I see your point, but I don't quite see what the solution for this would be?

    Best regards,
    Vlado

I don't think it would be wise and efficient to force all shaders vie a global setting to trace up to a specified maximum depth, since most of the time you only need more than the defaults for several dielectrics in your scene. Maybe if the reflection/refraction would be separated.
Creating a prepass, or something else to determine the max needed depth before a certain user specified treshold might be just too much fork for too little gain imo.

      Best regards,
      A.
