  • Animation (prepass) not saving irradiance map

    Hi Guys,
We are using the irradiance map for animation and vray calculates the GI then when it goes to save the irmap vray spits out an exception.
Now im just trying to save the maps to the local drive.

    Max 2009 x 64 vray 1.5 rc2

    Any ideas would be appriciated

What location are you saving the file to?

vlado after a bit more investigation it seems to be related to image size and size of IRmap.
I have been trying to calculate the GI at 1280x720px @ -3,-2 but that gives an error. If I reduce the resolution to 720x405 @ -3,-2 i dont get the error. But at 720x405 If I use -3,-1 it gives me the error.
        Very frustrating.

sounds like a typical memory issue to me.

thats cutting it pretty close. Let me get it right...your iramp file takes 5gb?? thats sounds really heavy to me. Perhaps simplifying your settings could help?

theoretically, if you render with irradience map per frame (single frame) and prepass of -1/-1 you can get a pretty flicker free result too. And you dont need to save that. So give it a shot.

If the irradiance map becomes larger then 2 GB, I can see where this would be a problem to save it to disk... I will check the scene though.

                      Best regards,

the irradiance map is not 2gb!
its only about 550kb per frame

Nope, I don't have enough RAM to render it - my machine has only 4 GB physical RAM and it chokes on it; I have to check if any of the other machines here can handle it.

                            Best regards,

                              thanks for the update vlado.
If you cant look at it dont worry. I managed to render it single frame with no problems. I was just hoping to use the irradiance for animation option.
