  • Goat a refraction/reflection craker to solve :)

    Hello all.

Got this situation, hopefully i will describe it well:

    - interior, camera overlooking indoor swimming pool, looking through 1st glazed area into the living room (glass pane is 5mm thick solid box), then from the living room one can see outside through big french windows (2nd glazed area consisting of 2 glass panes, each 5mm thick solid box).

    now

    - outside the house i have a plane mapped with an image (some trees sky etc) which i really need there for some nice reflections and refractions on the pool and other internal specular objects

    but

    - at the same time, i wanna have all those glazed areas alphaed, as i wanna control the image i have on that reflection pane outside and i will be replacing it and moving in in PS

so thats what i want and here is what i have tried:

basically i have applied some object properties and vray properties to the reflection pane object outside

    1st try
    max object properties as follows:
    - visible to camera unticked
    - cast and receive shadow unticked
    - visible to reflections and refractions ticked
    vray properties as follows
    - visible to GI unticked
    - visible to reflections ticked
    - visible to refractions unticked
    RESULT:
working alpha BUT the pool is missing the outsides pane reflections for some reason and it shows only vray sky

    2nd try
    max object properties as follows:
    - visible to camera unticked
    - visible to reflections and refractions ticked
    vray properties as follows
    - visible to GI unticked
    - visible to reflections ticked
    - visible to refractions ticked
    RESULT:
no alpha BUT lovely reflections and refraction of the environment on the pool

    DEDUCTION...
i dont get it...if i untick "visible to refractions" in vray properties, how come it affects reflections as well?

AM I MISSING SOMETHING HERE? PLEASE HELP...may be i will have to do this somehow with passes but how?

    THANKS A LOT

forgot to mention that i have a full dome light with HDRI lighting the scene as well but that is way too far behind that outside reflection pane...so it canno be really interacting with what ive described above.

If I understand correctly the only thing you need to do is set the alpha contribution of the glass and the plane in Vray properties to zero.
