  • "render host is not responding" error after scene is transferred to host

    Hi,
I am using DR and have one pc with license and other one as renderslave.

Scene gets transfered to slave and it renders fine and all is fine.
But then SOMETIMES, I get the error message written above and slave stops responding. It happens unexpectedly and I cannot find the cause. Any idea?

After this message, I shut the vray DR spwaner manually on the slave and manually start it again and it starts responding again.

It happens 10-15 times during the day. Anyone knows solution?

As soon as that error turns op, check the vraylog.txt on the C:\ of the unresponsive rendernode, it might specify why it stopped.

"ping not received from host, dropping connection"

now this message was displayed in vray messages window before "render host is not responding"

do you know why this happens? What it this?

Looks like a network or firewall problem, do you get the same problem when you disable the firewall?

firewall is already disabled. I never enable.

DR works normally. but stops from TIME TO TIME with "render host is not responding" message.
          what is ping?

Ping is a command to send a small packet to another host which will respond (if available).

You can manually run this command from the command prompt, for example:
            ping 192.168.0.2

It's a way to check if another computer is visible. A firewall could block this.

              hmm understood. thanks for reply.
I dont have the firewall active.
do you know other reasons why ping is not sent from slave?

vray asks for this ping? so can it be vray?

Vray just uses ping to check if the host is available.

You could check the Windows Event-logs on both computers to see if there's a network-related problem. It could also be a problem with your router/switch.

                    Start -> Run -> compmgmt.msc /s
under Computer Management -> System Tools -> Event Viewer

You could also run this command on the renderslave to see when/if you really lose connection: Start -> Run -> Cmd <enter>
                    then type:

                    ping -t <IP>

where <IP> is the IP of your workstation. Now the slave will keep pinging the workstation.

Maybe i'm totally off track here though, since a restart of the spawner seems to resolve it (temporarily).

It might just be the spawnprocess hanging for some reason and not sending pings anymore...

I looked at this logs but there are no messages displayed in these logs about this.
Thanks so much for your help.

                            hi martin
it seems u&me having endless DR problems ehehe
I had this problem with max9 and solved it. I wrote this in another post.
                            let me explain here.

I discovered that this happens because of 2 non-working ram slots.
and it is strange that it happened only SOMETIMES.
after a mysterious and painful day trying to dicover problem, I found that 2rams are not working properly.
and then I thought "maybe it is not rams but ram ports" and I was right.
2 ram ports on my motherboard died and causing this problem.

after I removed rams from that ports (they are empty), problem is gone.

thanks for your reply giraffe )))
i am starting to think it hapenned cos of the slave running out of memory!!!

as my main comp has 8 gigs ram
and the slave only 4 gigs

the scene itself uses 4.8Gb memory on main comp

...just thinking ....whether there is any way to test ram ports?????
by some sort of software??? ))
