    Almost the same problem here....
    some specs....

    vista ultimate 64
    max9 64 vray sp2
    8GB RAM
    (have all latest available updates)

@ lc calc stays between 20-44% cpu usage
@brute force fluctuates wildly from 30-99%
dynamic memory setting seems to have no effect...

    Thanks for any help friends

I am also having this problem:

      xp pro x64
      max 2008 vray 1.5sp1
      8gb RAM
      dual quad core xeons

      LC- never goes above 25%.

The scene I am rendering is using around 2.75GB of VRayProxies.

I had this problem some time ago and the solution we found was setting up the paging file to a different physical hard drive and increasing the paging size. This doesnt seem to work anymore.

        memory?

I got a chance to test out another scene and it's not having the same issue, so it makes me think it's got to do with either displacement, vrayfur, vrayproxies, or all of these...

To clarify, the scene having the problem was using lots of vrayproxies, (4)vray furs, and 2d displacement.

Scenes with a lot of dynamic geometry tend to perform sub-optimally if V-Ray needs to constantly flush and recreate that geometry. This is not specific to DR however. The solution is typically to increase the dynamic memory limit setting.

I had it (Dynamic) set at 7000MB in the heavy scene. If my machine has 8GB, can I increase the dynamic mem any more, or is it maxed out, hehehe?

Well, proxies need to be loaded from disk or network; vrayfur needs to generate the actual hairs; displacement needs to generate sub-triangles. All of these operations are not multithreaded. It is possible to make this better (with the exception of the hard disk access of course) at some point.

hmm, same issue here, solution for me was very simple: I thought why should i send every time i render files through network when i can do that..

I set the project folder, then copy all the files used in scene (maps, proxy, ies files, etc... ) in project folder , in asset manager I set derectory as follow : maps = ./maps/, for proxy = ./proxy/, etc... then i copy on all machines contents of the project folder ( most of the time is in : /my documents/3dsmax/ ), that will remove the need every time ur workstation renders to send through network any files - proxy, maps , etc... and will load them localy. check for missing files is a must, to see if there is a file that's not copied in the project folders.

I hope thats help. this is working fine on max 2008 and 2009 on heavy scenes, when memory usage is up to 5 or 8 gigs. (loads of animated proxys)
When I make calculation for light cache and IR, I made them on my workstation without usind DR , then save them in network folder, and when the rendering comes i have 100% usage of all cpu-s.

                sorry my bad english.
