  • Vrayspawner slows down computer when not in use

    Hello,
We have a problem on one of our computers- when vray spawner is launched, it extremely slows down the computer, in example, to open windows explorer takes about a half minute. This happens, when spawner isn't in use- no one is rendering.
It's installed as workstation machine, with WIBU drivers and dongle (However the license is usualy used by some other computer). Any ideas how to solve this, so we could keep the spawner allways ready?

We have the exact same problem as you. I have not found a work a round yet.

Are you using 3ds Max 2009? Try starting the spawner as a service, instead of directly running it. It does the same thing to my Vista machine.

Thanks Vlado, but we're still on 2008 64bit on xp64. Its a very strange problem!

I have been having the same problem, I use Vista 64. The computer becomes really slow so I have to turn the spawner off. I'll try running it as a service to see if that helps.

We have the same problem. On Vis2008 or Max9 and VRaySP1 the Spawner can always run in background, no performance problems.

But since MaxDesign2009 and VRaySp2 you cannot run any programs without boring performance issuse when Spawner runs in background.

<shrug> Nothing much I can do directly about the issue; the problem is not caused by the V-Ray spawner, but by the 3ds Max (2009 specifically) instance started by it. It will work much better if you run the spawner as a service, instead of manually, as a service by default cannot influence the normal desktop.

              Best regards,
              Vlado

We have the same problem, the pc becomes unusable when running a spawner.
When running the spawner as a service it doesn't slow the computer, however it renders without textures and proxys

A solution would be much appreciated!

In the service properties, make sure it runs as a user that has rights to access the network.

We ran in the same problem and still found no solution even if we choose the userprofil to run under.

username and PW are setup correct on server and client. When starting the Vrayspawner2009.exe by hand everything works fine exept the performance issues.

                      Thanks Vlado.

But no luck with that solution...
Tried with different user rights in service properties, all the way up to domain administrator.

We have eight dual quadcore workstations, but we can't run vray spawner as the machines are brought to it's knees by it. Can hardly use Word... :-/ Really need the available render power.

Has anyone got it up and running?

Same with the Vrayspawner2009.exe: Everything works fine exept the performance issues.

Yeah we have tried doing this also, but with no change. All our machines will render correctly, with network maps, if the spawner is started by the user, and we still have the slowdown previously talked about with running it this way.

Its a pain, but it does work at the end of the day, just not the perfect way!

                          We're on Vray SP2, max 2008 64, XP64 Pro SP2.

Oh, would it be rude to ask when SP3 will be out!!?? Just a ballpark.....

                            Thanks Trixian and Vlado.

None of the suggested solutions has worked, unfortunately. So I'm afraid the bug hunt continues...

sp3 will not change anything in the situation; the slowdown is done by the copy of 3ds Max itself that is started by the V-Ray spawner, and access to the network is not controlled by V-Ray.

                              Best regards,
                              Vlado
