I see a similar setup there, an 8 way quad core 8354 opteron, perhaps run the same test as used there to see how it performsand compares. What kind of system is that 4 cpu socket computer, is that a boxx?
About buying a new workstation, those lower end 55xx nehalems are really the bang for the buck right now, such has the 2.27Ghz.
Cheers

now we have the same problem as it seems...
3 machines the ones with xeon processors need 4 times (four) longer render times than the other machines...(they have 16 and 12 gb ram...at rendering there is about 3 to 7 gb free)
windows7 64bit max2010 design 64bit vray1-5 sp4 multithreading on
is there a solution... the snoop off setting didn´t do a positive...i tried to check speed step to on...but not better... any tips for other bios performance settings?
will tell later...
