  • Vray fur problem

    Hi guys,
I read several threads, and there is one, unanswered, where vrayfur, when it's rendering, uses only one core. That happens to me. I know it's better to have emitter object with more faces, so I have that, and use only 100 furs per face, and still my render just stops when it gets to this fur object. Not sure if it would continue. My memory is set to auto dynamic and 2000. Not sure what else to do. I want thick grass, as I've seen it on some renders, so I know it can be done. Please help, and let me know if you need more info. Thanks.

The generation of the fur is not multithreaded, but the actual rendering is. With very dense fur objects, the generation may take quite some time.

I see. But this was after the rendering started, few buckets (I think they're called) were already done, like the sky area. I think I'm experiencing something like this guy here.

Can you tell me for my PC - 2 Opteron 275 and 4GB RAM, everything 64 bit, what dynamic memory settings I should use? Or maybe point me to somewhere where it's explained well.

      Thanks Vlado

Yep, the fur is generated during the rendering - that's why it is "dynamic" geometry.

Ok. But what settings do you recommend? is 2000 MB ok?

Also, should I make two "smaller" vray fur objects with same emitter? I mean, is it better to make two vrayfurs pointing to same plane, each generating 50 hairs per face, or one generating 100 hairs per face? Since there is no "seed" number, hairs will be placed on the same spot.

          thx

Also, vrayfur generator, I know it works best when you have a lot of faces, and basically is useless if I put per area. But on my shopping mall scene I have to have a big grass floor, so the emitter now has about a milion faces, so I can have 50 hairs per face. Anyway engine could be changed so I can use simple emitters and get the same effect?

try VRayDisplacement modifier instead of vrayfur. Works perfect for lawn grass

I know, but I don't like the grass close to the camera. I managed to make vrayfur work with lot of faces but I would still like to know the settings fo rmy PC and if vrayfur will be advanced so that you can have a simple object that generates it instead of lot of faces and having to use per face method.
