  • Can't Net Render A File That Renders Fine Locally

    Hello chaps,

I'm looking for some help to get a scene rendering via Backburner:

The scene renders fine locally but we get the old "An unexpected exception has occurred in the network renderer and it is terminating" when it renders via backburner.

The problem is scene specific as I can get other vray files to render. The scene is a mix of mesh and vray proxies.

All of our machines are xp64 with 8 GB RAM, we're using vray 1.5 sp2 & max design 2009 64 bit with creativity installed.

I've attached the vraylog. As you'll see it's not getting to far enough for it to be a memory issue. Correct me if I'm wrong though!

I really need to get this sorted as we need to get an animation rendering asap.

Let me know if you need any other info...

    All thoughts gratefully received!

    Cheers,
    Olly

i had the same problem , xp64 max 2009 & couldnt solve it.

what i did & worked for me is " i created a new scene & merged the old in it & readjusted the settings "

it worked fin after that .

I had a problem once with backburner where I had a space after my camera name. It kept kicking back an error and refusing to render. Removing the space fixed it. Other than that, try as khoross said and merge into a clean file.

Thanks for the replies so far.

I'd already tried to merge in to a new file with no luck.

No spaces after any cameras either.

Guess it's just one of those things that are sent to test our patience!

        I'll keep looking...

Bumping this thread because it seems that I'm fallen into exactly the same problem:

          - backburner returns "An unexpected exception has occurred in the network renderer and it is terminating"; no error in VRay logfile
          - direct rendering just passed the critical point (LC calc) and seems to render fine

          I've never found in the past a similar issue, I can't imagine a reason for a file that renders fine locally and crash during netrender;

          My spec are:
          quad qx6700
          4gb
          xp64
          max design 2009 x64+creativity ext.
          VRay sp2 x64

          Any further suggestion?

          EDIT: I spoke too early!!!

...it crashed again , here is the end of logfile
error: UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: Irradiance map thread
Last marker is at .\src\displacementfunc.cpp, line 196: Done evaluating displacement function

so I played with edge length but then

error: UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: Rendering region (320,792)-(480,864)
          Last marker is at .\src\material.cpp, line 1746: VRayMtl::shade() {2}

that gives me no useful input to investigate, any idea?

Just forgot to mention that image renders fine at low res (1280x580) but crashes always increasing resolution (2560x1440); I usually render image demanding for a lot more ram than this one that requires more or less 2gb

          EDIT2: I've found it!
It seems that it's a VRay light mtl crashing max if rendered from that camera; using another one works well
