  • Monster render size help

    I am trying to render out an image that is 4960 x 23400
    pretty simple scene just a few shapes to represent a powerplant and a tall stack in the background. I used vray mats using procedurals to make them up without any image maps because of the large size of the final output. I keep getting the message invalid bitmap and MAX just tanks the render...even if I use vrimg.
    Any help?

    Did you disable the Max Rendered Frame Window and use the Vray Frame Buffer?

      Yep...btw..I am using a standard camera as I don't know how to get an orthagonal VRAY camera setup properly no matter how I pan and change the focal point of VRAY camera or vray target...

        Since it's an orthogonal view just render out portions and splice it in photoshop.

          image test

          Here's a screen grab of my problem using the VRAY camera.
          As you can see, it's vanishing too much upward and I have too much of the building showing.

            For your Render,did you try Backburner, It was the only way I could get it to work on a large render (not as large as yours but shed loads of texures and Disp)

            get it to do strip rendering and peice together in PS or similar.

              Backburner was next....VRAY chokes a little using a standard camera....hehe

                Definitely backburner/strips.

                We are constantly rendering images 30,000 x 5,000 pixels with no problems
                Needs more cowbell

                    That wouldn't be Battersea Power Station would it? Is someone working on a plan to save it?

                      Aside from backburner, you could simply use the vray framebuffer, disable it from rendering to ram, disable it from getting the resolution from max (and specify the resolution there), save an EXR or VRIMG file from there, and disable the max vfb.
                      This allows you to render up to 65k square, without taking up more ram than a few kb per bucket (math: 32bits, or 4bytes per channel, per pixel. a 64x64px bucket would contain 64x64x4 bytes, or 16kb. RGBA would be 64k per bucket.), per rendered channel (RGBAZVxVy and so on), rather than the full (possibly FP: a 2048x1556xRGBA FB is 194.5 MB in ram) framebuffer.

                      It also has the plus side of allowing for a LOT of channels (or render elements, if you wish ) inside your image (embedded in either the exr or the vrimg), which for high resolutions and a full FB would mean running fast out of ram.
