  • DR Problem.....

A little while ago I posted a problem about DR and across multiple OS systems (XP64 and Vista Ultimate 64). I have some further info I'd like to share....

Our problem was that our Render slaves (Quad Core, 4Gig Ram, Vista Ultimate 64) would sometimes render completely black frames, then other times work perfectly. There seemed to be no pattern or repeatability. Whenever we DR to each others workstations (Dual Quad Core, 8Gig Ram, XP64) we didn't have any issues.

Recently we discovered that if we launched the spawner then immediately registered the service (Chaos Group>Distributed Rendering>Administration>Register Vray spawner service) then the slave would function correctly. So I wondered if i tried running it as a background service then it might work (Chaos Group>Distributed Rendering>Licensing>Launch Vray Licence service). But it didn't, so I've attached the log to see if anyone can shed any light on this.

I'm glad we can finally use our slaves but it'd be better to have this run automatically...

this is for licence only.. (keep licence settings up and running)

    Have you tried:

turn service ( vray spawner, not licence) off
open spawner in the regular way
shoot a render.. see if it works.. if it works, spawner works ok.. if not, check firewall protection and/or user rights
    if it works, exit spawner
    turn spawner SERVICE on
go to the services panel, (right click: MyComputer|Manage|Services and Applications|Services|VraySpawner)
just to make sure that the service is started, and as well to tell the service to automatically restart if there is a fail ( you can also manage what user is running the service, if all users on the machine does not have the same rights on network drives)

Sorry, I'm confused. I thought that running the service (...>Administration>Register Vray spawner service) would mean that it would run automatically in the background regardless of whether the spawner is running or not

      See Vlado's comments here:
      http://chaosgroup.com/forums/vbullet...gister+Service

With no one logged into the slaves, and the service running, the slaves pick up the render but render it black.

If I then log onto the slaves and just launch the spawner, they work fine (without having to Register).

      Any ideas? Vlado?

      Thanks for all your help.

Running the services opens the VraySpawner in the background.. what i'm trying to do here, is to nail down if the actual problem is 1-vray itself or 2- the service stopped.. that's all..

if it renders black, have you change the licence machine IP, or switch where the Wibu key was located
