  • An extra 2 prepasses for no reason

    Hi

Been working on a restaurant interior.
Everything been running fine and then suddenly VRay adds an extra 2 prepasses to what ever Irridiance settings I choose.

Say I choose a low preset for sample render, instead of normal 2 prepasses,
it will fly through the first 2 and then on prepass 3 and 4 will do its actual calculations.

At the moment, rendering final render with 3 prepasses.
It flew through first 2 passes and currently on prepass 3 of 5. Instead od 1 of 3.

It seems to be still calculating everything correctly and no reduction in speed as first 2 (ghost) prepasses are very quick.

Any reason why this is happening, is my scene corrupt somehow.
Have not had a chance to open a new scene and try fresh.

    Max Design 2009 and Vray 1.5 sp2

    Any help.

    Cheers

    Derek

There are also prepasses for Glossy Effects that have interpolation turned on. Maybe that's what's happening ?

      Thanx

Had a look, that is what is happening.
A was sent a shader to use, that has interpolation turned on.
Not sure what that means, but at least for now I know why.
      Thanks

        Hi,

I just had a scene yesterday with the same problem and it turned out to be the VRayFastSSS.

Yeah, I've had this happen to me many times. The interpolation is the first suspect. It'll often catch you by surprise if you merge in an object and you don't realize that object has an interpolated effect in the material. Sometimes it's difficult to find the material though. And sometimes you find one, turn off interpolation, and it still calculates the extra passes. Which means you have to go digging for another material with interpolation turned on. When you have a hundred or so materials in your scene, it becomes a royal pain in the a$$.
