  • Splotchies, lightleaks

    Does anyone have some tips on getting rid of these? The light-leaks are at the LC level I think, and the splotchiness is the IR cache. As much as i'd love to just turn on pre-filter on the LC and increase the interpolation subdivs on the IR cache, the former increases memory consumption, and the latter greatly reduces/blurs details that will occur further down the track when details are added.

    Uncheck store direct light in LC.
    That's making light leaks in my renders usually.

      2 ways ive found how to do it is to make sure "check sample visibility" is on and also you could try changing the vray geometry id to something other than what the geometry is next to it. So, for example, changing your coving object to id 1...i think the default is 0.

      Edit: I would try changing the vray id first as I think the sample visibility boosts rendertime.

      Also, you need to make sure your objects are all closed meshes..

        Also, don't use the "Overlapped" look-up mode for the samples, use the default ("Density-based").

          Well I did a bit of everything here. Changing from Overlapping to Density-Based made the biggest difference - I got more details and accuracy in corners, and less light-leaks. A list of changes from the original settings are below:

          IR:
          Overlapping -> Density Based
          HSph 60 -> 120
          Max rate 0 -> -1

          I tried the other suggestions, such as geometry id and LC direct light, but they didn't make much/any difference. Now this image is still "dirty", and I know how i'll make it cleaner, but I just wanted to post the difference between Overlapping and Density for reference.

            I'm going to use AO to bring out the details like I did in a previous project (in the same building) so i've given up on small interpolation values.

            Changes:
            IR:
            Max Rate -1 -> -2
            HSph 120 -> 60
            Interp. 20 -> 60
            Clr 1.0 -> 0.9
            Nrm 0.3 -> 0.2

            Sampler:
            AA 0.95 -> 0.75
