  • afterburn issues... compatibility with VRay?

    Hi all

I'm busy with a project where I'm using lots of afterburn. All works well excpet for 2 things so far. When I want to use afterburn glow, max crashes on render (I'm obviously rendering with VRay) Low settings and high does the same. I also tried doing the glow rocket tutorial 8 that comes with afterburn. I just set renderer to VRay and it crashes with anything afterburn glow.

Next issue is that I can't seem to get any shadows from the afterburn smoke. I've tried different types of lights, it just doesn't want to. Also no self shadow. Very weird.

Anybody knows if this is a compatibility issue or if it needs some kind of work around?

    O yes and I'm using Vista 64bit, Max 2009 64Bit and Vray 1.5SP2
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

For the shadows, I think you need to use the Afterburn-specific shadow generators. I have no idea about the glow issues, might be better to contact the Afterburn support guys. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a demo or evaluation version of AfterBurn available so I can't check this out myself.

    Best regards,

For me, Vray and Afterburn works fine.
If I use Max lights and set shadow to Vray shadow, it renders
just fine. With Vray lights I get the shadow, but smoke stays black.

          Max 2008 x64 - Vray 1.5 sp3 (also worked same way with sp2)

If you dont get shadows from regular lights with VRayShadows you prolly have to turn on "atmosphere shadows" in the light's options.

            Regards,
            Thorsten
