the glass object was made with a spline, then i made the outline 1cm to get "thickness" and extruded the object. but i get strange results on the curved areas. can someone tell me what is meant with "thickness"?

have you checked that all the spline's vertices are welded and it's correctly extruded?

I'd be curious to see if this was still a problem if you modeled the panels for that curved area as individual panes. I'm no glass expert, but would there really be such a huge single piece of curved glass? If there is such a thing it must cost a small fortune before installation.

@rivoli: what do you mean with "correctly extruded"?

depending on how you drew the shape, you might have one or more vertices not welded together. if that is the case you may end up with two sided planes instead of an actual object with thickness once the shape is extruded. I asked only because vray doesn't have any problem with curved refractive objects per se, so it may still be a geometry issue.

              perhaps it's a smoothing issue?

try to apply 'smooth' modifier on the glass object, tick 'auto', leave threshold at default value and see what happens.

found the issue for the distortion in the rounded glass object.
i imprted a polyline out of the cad program, and checked in "enable in render" and "enable in viewport" and set a lenght of 1cm and a widh of 800cm.
never before had any problems with that approach, but i think i also never had the situation with rounded glass. importing a doubleline and extruding this solves the problem.

Normally if I have any CAD import issues (assuming the model isnt too complicated) I will just re-model it. It saves a lot of time trying to work out what is wrong with the imported model.
